In a momentous occasion as preparations intensify for WYD (World Youth Day) Seoul 2027, the Archdiocese of Seoul has been bestowed with 16 pieces of hair belonging to Blessed Carlo Acutis, classified as first-class relics, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The solemn transfer occurred at the archbishop’s office through the auspices of Father Will Conquer of the Paris Foreign Missions Society, who presented the relics to Archbishop Peter Soon-taick Chung.

Born in London in 1991 to Italian parents, Blessed Carlo Acutis is venerated for his profound devotion to Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. Affectionately referred to as “God's Influencer,” he adeptly utilized the Internet as a medium to disseminate his faith, curating a compilation of Eucharistic miracles and Marian apparitions on his website. His innovative approach to evangelism has left an indelible impact on countless young individuals worldwide. Tragically, Acutis succumbed to acute leukemia in 2006 at the tender age of 15, yet his legacy of steadfast faith and devotion continues to inspire.

During the relic delivery ceremony, Archbishop Chung was joined by Fr. Dominic Young-jin Jung, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Seoul; Fr. Matteo Kwang-hee Choi, Spokesperson for the Archdiocese; and Fr. Peter Joo-yul Yang, Executive Secretary of the Local Organizing Committee for WYD Seoul 2027, alongside six representatives of the youth community.

The arrival of these first-class relics, symbolically positioning Blessed Carlo Acutis as the inaugural youth to visit Korea in spirit, underscores the archdiocese’s commitment to engaging young people in the upcoming celebration of faith. Furthermore, plans are in place for the distribution of his relics to each diocese during the 2025 Jubilee.

Blessed Carlo was formally approved for canonization by Pope Francis and the Consistory of Cardinals this past July, with anticipation mounting for his proclamation as a saint in 2025, thereby solidifying his position as a paragon for young believers.

The Archdiocese of Seoul eagerly anticipates sharing the enduring message of Blessed Carlo Acutis as it prepares for the forthcoming WYD celebration, ensuring that his journey of faith resonates profoundly with the youth of Korea and beyond.
