Tree Planting Project

Planting Faith, Cultivating Hope

The tree-planting project is part of the Breath of Life campaign and continues the legacy of WYD Lisbon 2023, where over 18,000 trees were planted as part of a global movement.
However, this is more than just an environmental initiative. It is a faithful act of preserving the order of creation and a concrete step toward carbon neutrality rooted in our belief in God.

First Tree Planting Event – April 26, 2025 at World Cup Park

The LOC is collaborating with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Forest Service to help in the restoration of World Cup Park, a site that was once the Nanjido landfill. Transforming this polluted land into a place of life is both an act of repentance and reparation.
The first event was held on April 26, 2025, and will continue once or twice each spring and autumn in the years to come.
This is an open invitation to all—regardless of religion, age, or background—to join in planting life and hope together.

Commemorative Tree Planting with the Vatican

On July 9, 2025, a special commemorative tree planting took place at Jeoldusan Martyrs’ Shrine, with the participation of Dr. Gleison, the secretary of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life, Bishop Paul Kyung-Sang Lee, the General Coordinator of WYD Seoul 2027, and young volunteers. As we planted trees together, we chose life, sowed hope, and committed ourselves to protecting the world God has entrusted to us.
